Is stress a sin?

If stress is a sin then we are all in major trouble. How we handle our stress and the behaviors we may exhibit can become a sin. Jesus was faced with stress in many accounts of his life. (Remember Jesus was fully human, but relied on the strength of his Father not his on strength. In order to be tempted in the same way we are tempted Christ never relied on his strength, but only sought strength through the Spirit of his Father. Heb 4:15)

In Luke 22:39-46, Jesus went up to his usual spot on the Mt. of Olives to cope with his stress through prayer and petition. He specifically asked that what was before him would be taken away, but realized that God's will was more important than his temporary stress and anxiety.

How are you handling the stress of everyday life and the anxieties that can encumber us with a heavy load to bear? Everyone handles stress differently. However, Luke 21:34 calls for us to handle the anxieties of life by being alert and ready for the return of Christ.

An interesting note about stress. Where is stress often focused? On oneself. Take your focus to Christ and allow your slipping foot to be supported by the love of God who brings you comfort (Psalm 94:18-19).
