How to Make Decisions.

In my chronological Bible reading for the year I read about how Pharaoh noticed Joseph had the Spirit of God to lead him in the right direction and regarded him as a man who was discerning and wise in his eyes (Gen 41:37-40). Here are three things to help us become wise and discerning as we are lead by the Spirit of God.

  1. Ask for spiritual discernment (Psalm 119:125).
  2. Listen to spiritual mentors and God (Prov. 1:5).
  3. Take to heart instructions and follow the direction of spiritual mentors and God (Prov. 16:20-21).

We have a Spirit of Power from God when we have taken Christ on in baptism (Col. 2:9-12). Therefore, take captive your thoughts and lean upon the Spirit to discern what God is leading you to do or say (I Cor. 2:6-16).

This applies to every aspect of our life. From buying things, to looking for a new job, speaking truth into ones life, and raising children in Christ. Using a simple process to slow down and think about our decisions will allow us to lead a more fruitful life for the Kingdom and keep us from living in sin.

May others see in us the Spirit of God and our spiritual discernment when we are seeking His guidance just as Pharaoh saw it in Joseph.

Here is a great resource to help you listen to the voice of God. The Art of Listening Prayer by Seth Barnes.
