In The Footsteps of Paul Book Review

This book is a visually inspiring book to read and it allows one's imagination to run back to the days of the 1st Century as the Apostle Paul went from place to place preaching that Jesus Christ is the crucified Messiah.

I was immediately captivated by the stunning work of Ken Duncan, who was led to travel the same roads Paul would have traveled. Ken admits that many of the places are based upon oral tradition and speculation. However, he did his best work to capture pictures of actual places where Paul would have stood and proclaimed the Kingdom of God.

The book is not intended for Biblical study, interpretation and/or exegesis of Paul's life. The book is intended to capture the narrative of the book of Acts and the storyline of Paul within the narrative. In the Footsteps of Paul has quotes from Christian authors and from the Bible weaved throughout. This book would make a great gift to anyone who is inspired by the life of Paul. One will be moved closer to the cross of Christ to see pictures of where Paul would have proclaimed the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

I have been moved by the pictures and one quote in particular in the book by Phillip Yancey,

"Knocked flat on the ground on the way to Damascus, [Paul] never recovered from the impact of grace: the word appears no later than the second sentence in every one of his letters."

May this book move you closer to the "impact of grace" as one walks where Paul walked.

  1. I gotta tell, you Lantz, I am impressed with your reading list! ("impressed" doesn't seem like quite the right word, but it's the best I could muster) It goes well beyond (in very good ways) the reading list I might expect from a CoC minister who said he found me on other CoC blogs.

Hope that doesn't sound jaded, I just spent most of my life in the CoC, and I find it very refreshing and encouraging to see a CoC minister with this kind of literary repertoire. If I ever make it out to Vegas, I'll have to come hear you preach!

  2. We've recently returned from the Holy Land "steps of Paul" tour, and received this book as a gift. We loved looking through the photos.
