Come Follow Me Part I

The following was a bulletin cover for church this past week. Have two more coming about "Come Follow Me"

“Come Follow Me”

When the disciples heard Jesus say to them “come follow me” all they really understood was that this was their opportunity to be a disciple of a Rabbi. Did they know where their journey would take them? No. Would their journey be safe? No. What would be happening when they followed Rabbi Jesus? They did not know. Why would they follow a Rabbi when they did not know where they would be going, they probably would not be safe, and the unexpected might happen?

The same questions are being asked today. Will you follow Christ to Mission Lazarus in Honduras? Will you pray for God’s will to be done; it may not be safe, the unexpected may happen, and we will go where many have not been, but at least we will have prayed for God’s will to be done. There was a transforming story unfolding for all who followed Christ. The disciples would have missed Jesus changing the water into wine, forgiving the woman at the well, healing the lame, blind and weak if they did not follow Him. They would have missed the opportunity to see Jesus walking on the water and walk on water themselves, rising of the dead, and numerous stories that transformed their faith into committed followers of Christ.

You have the same opportunity to participate in a story that is unfolding today and to be transformed into a radical follower of Christ. There will be joys when serving in Honduras knowing you are following Jesus Christ and His transforming stories. Those who serve on the mission trip to Honduras will be participating in the story of bringing a glimpse of heaven to earth as we serve the sick, hungry, orphaned, and many who have never heard the transformation of the Cross. There are many “what ifs” one could ask themselves before serving on a mission trip, but one may miss the transformational story that will lead to a deeper relationship with Christ. Christ never said ‘Follow me and life will be easy.’ Christ said, “Follow me and make disciples of all nations,” and that includes Honduras. Ask God to guide you into His presence and your participation in the mission trip. You may be the one He is calling to go on the trip, donating financially, or possibly a prayer warrior on everyone’s behalf. Nonetheless there is a story for all who listen to the words of Christ, “Come, follow me.”

There will be an informational meeting about the mission trip to Honduras October 19th at 4pm. Please come if you are interested in going, sending, or hearing about the project.
