Last night on the way home from our small group Jessica and I started to get into one of those great discussions that lead each other into a closer relationship with Christ. She shared with me that she has really been focusing on contentment lately. We continued to share our desires for being content in every situation. Our desire to be content stems from: we are both looking forward to the youth minister conference in Pittsburgh in a couple of weeks, we are looking forward to our time in Texas during the Christmas season, we are looking forward to a vacation we are planning now for next summer, we are looking forward to kids in the future, we are looking forward.
How is contentment possible when we look forward? Contentment is a process and a journey. Ecclesiastes 4:8 mentions a man all alone and he had great wealth but was not content. We live in America and all of use have great wealth. Where will our contentment come from? We know our contentment cannot rest in the economy or a presidential election. Our content comes from the one who provides everlasting joy no matter our situation because Christ will never leave us or forsake us.
God please forgive my weary heart of looking forward and not resting in the everlasting joy of you and the contentment you provide. Amen
