Yesterday after a blessed youth ministers convention in Pittsburgh, PA we returned our rental car to the airport to prepare for our departure back to Las Vegas to find out the check-in receipt for the car was $200 more than than what I signed when we picked up the car. Apparently the salesman for the car rental company manipulated the paperwork of the agreement we verbally communicated when we picked up the car. He verbally gave me the same deal as the company we had the reservation through, but we were unable to get our reservation because that company, Enterprise closes at 11pm and we arrived in Pittsburgh at 1:30a. However, the salesman manipulated the paperwork for a 5 day rental when we verbally agreed on a 4 day rental which lead to the $200 increase in the initial bill. Apparently if you turn in a rental car early you get penalized each extra day the car was to be out. Why would you get penalized for bringing the car back? The car that came back early is a car that can go back out and therefore leads to more revenue.
Everyone is a sales person of something. The lesson here is not to manipulate the short term gain for the long term benefit of a relationship.
We did recover the $200 back on the original agreement, but this company will never have may rental car business. If you are looking for a rental car company that looks out for you as a long term relationship then by all means use Enterprise.
