Hebrews: Ancient Encouragement Today by Edward William Fudge is a must have and must read for anyone wanting to dive a little deeper into the text and context of Hebrews. Fudge does an outstanding job of keeping Jesus Christ at the center of the study. The vivid pictures he paints as he walks you through the text helps me to center my life on the beauty and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This commentary is intended for the scholar, minister, pastor, and every lay person in between who desires to come in contact with the Jesus Christ we follow.
The Common Version translation which appears before each section has been developed for this book. Often we get confused between the original text and the many various modern translation of the Bible. Fudge worked diligently to bring The Common Version translation forward by linking your favorite translation into an accurate and readable translation (TCV) as you walk through Hebrews.
We are currently using the commentary as class preparation for our fall Hebrews class. We have a Jr High class, High school class, and an adult class who are using the material presented to help each teacher present the material in a relevant way for each age group. If you are thinking about studying Hebrews, think no longer and grab this book to guide you, coach you, encourage you, as you learn about Christ and His sacrifice for a fallen world.
