Getting My Frustrations Out via The Gym

"Man I had to come here today to get my frustration out."

This is a noble and praiseworthy statement of effort by many men and women who go to the gym. For many reasons we all have those days and sometimes weeks when we are frustrated, angry, or depressed.

What I have noticed and observed is that many men love to lift weights, few like to spend time on cardio.

Cardio or sustained heart rate at least above 70% of maximum for 20-30 minutes is possibly where the secret is to working out frustrations, not under the dumbbell.

There is a balance between being frustrated and working those emotions out. I think there is a middle ground between lifting weights every time at the gym and combining time in aerobic cardio conditioning.

Weightlifting will get your heart rate up, but not for a sustained period of time unless you are doing some intervals or Crossfit.

Focus on spending some time on aerobic conditioning for your frustrations and then pump some iron. Not going to bore you with the facts at this point, but there is plenty of research that shows the improvement of mental health when aerobic exercise is involved.

If you want to do some reading on this subject look at the book Spark: The Revolutionary New Science and the Brain.
