Who is my best friend?

The other day in our counseling meeting at the Renewing Life Center we were talking about marriages and what makes some marriages extra special that last a lifetime. According to the training we are going through with expert John Gottman, the marriages that are healthy are marriages were you are friends. I am not talking about an acquaintance, but a best friend who you want to share and do virtually everything together.

Well, I love to do everything with Jessica. In fact the most boring things in life often bring me joy because I am sitting next to my best friend. This weekend we are going to a wedding of two friends in the LA area. We are going to do one crazy thing that is really random that we never talk about doing. We are going to a LA Dodgers game. Neither one of us really care about baseball and we both go insane watching the slow sport. However, we like to do activities that are fun (repelling picture) and random. Allowing the rhythm of random things to flow into a relationships helps one realize the relationship with your best friend is what matters. Individuals in marriages often try to restore the relationship by doing instead of being. The being comes from realizing you can do random and boring activities and find incredible joy with your best friend.
