Dangerous Letter Writing

What would teens write today if they could share their story anonymously to his or her parents? How would the girl who never sees her dad because he is working all the time express herself? What would the boy say to his mom who looks more at herself than her family? What would the one who cuts express about why they are cutting? How about the shy one who does not want to be shy because they are protected by their family? Would the teen who is experimenting with drugs be honest about his or her choice in a letter to his or her parents?

There is power in being able to express oneself through a letter. As adults, would we read these letters with an open mind and heart? Or would we place a barrier between the letter and the receiver and try to convince ourselves that this letter could not be from my son or daughter? This could potentially be dangerous if one honestly looked with a new lens, not from our standpoint, but from the one who is writing the letter. This could be a dangerous letter and challenge everyone about our perspectives on how we mold and shape adolescent.
