Last night Jessica and I had the opportunity to be blessed by the joy of singing with a different generation of our church in someone's home. We are often with the teens feeding and nurturing them in their faith. There was a simple joy in singing the oldies as well as several of the new songs the church is learning with many people we would consider our grandparents or parents. Why have churches across the world created a culture of separation of generations? We do not see the separation of generations throughout the Bible. In fact we see the exact opposite. There are several generations within any church community or tribe, but we often find ourselves leaning upon those who are closer in age. There must be a collision of generations to continue the story of faith from men and women who have experienced the highs and lows of following Christ. I am sure if we were to share our stories from the past of how Christ has shaped our lives it would allow another generation to be stronger in their faith. May we not be like the generation who forgot to share the stories of God in Judges 2:10 and then a whole generation grew up not knowing God.
Thanks for allowing us to share in your stories and may we continue to pass on our stories to a new generation.
Generations will collide this Sunday. Anyone is welcome to participate in the teen class as we explore, Jesus, politics, and a Kingdom perspective.
